Bio
I started teaching because I felt it was a calling and I have spent the last 5 years in education in a variety of roles. As a classroom teacher I understand the difficult work a teacher must do to understand the best possible ways to reach students, retain them and engage them in a successful learning process. My educational philosophy has been developed over the years through experience, education, peer-to-peer interaction, discussions with community members and most
importantly listening to my students.
My philosophy is based in the idea that the teacher’s role in the classroom is one that should be extremely versatile. My approach to education is holistic and my roles vary between Student and Family Counselor, Provider of Choice, Implementer of Success, Model and Mentor and Advocate for Perseverance. It is our responsibility to reach each learner and because no two students will ever be the same, we must be prepared to switch hats whenever necessary. I believe wholeheartedly that we are molding the leaders, health care providers, business owners, law makers and parents of the future and thus, what we do now, affects everyone tomorrow. This is why I believe that education must reach outside the classroom walls and the school building, into the community. I believe educators hold the most amount of power to make change than anyone else in the country.
Throughout my professional career I have held true to this philosophy by constantly switching hats and reflecting on each experience to best serve my students. As a Masters Student
and Lead Online Teacher, I have excelled at the art of developing a standards-based, hands-on and technology driven curriculum of which you can see samples by visiting my electronic portfolio @ http://munro-eportfolio.blogspot.com. As a Special Education Coordinator, I have enriched this curriculum by implementing differentiated instruction techniques such as the use of stations, choice and the implementation of SADIE strategies, which I have trained teachers, across multiple disciplines, to implement into their curriculum. Through my roles as College Counselor and Testing Coordinator, I have learned the value of developing a pedagogy that incorporates a balance between real-life application, test taking strategies, organization and overall comprehension and have incorporated this into my curriculum delivery. Most importantly, as a Lifelong Learner and WASC Committee Member, I have learned the value of observation and self-reflection so that one never stops developing upon the daily lessons we learn as a student, teacher and administrator.
It is the combination of these experiences that has driven me to to become an Instructional Coach. Throughout my career, I have been blessed with many opportunities to serve in different roles and wish to share the knowledge and resources I have attained with the teachers who so often serve with the minimal resources available to them
